Providing technical pre-production services to fashion designers is extremely complex work. So much so that clients can only know if they're pleased but you almost have to be a practitioner to know if a company is really any good. And that would be me. Patternworks is my competitor* and in many respects, they beat me by a country mile. Here's why:
They have more than 10 pattern makers on staff with over 200 years of combined experience. People who've worked with the biggest brands in the business. They can take you from sketch to pre-production, filling requirements any contractor could only dream of. This includes patterns, specifications, tech packs, line sheets, grading (and grade specifications), shrink grading, technical illustration... all through sample making and marker making. Often they can set clients up with local contractors. Who by the way, often give customers a 10% discount because they know that work from Patternworks is the standard by which practitioners in the trade can only aspire to emulate.
Patternworks is big on technology. They can conduct fit sessions live over the web. They have the leading CAD software in the industry, can do file conversions from one program to another and this is in addition to their own proprietary technical package software they've developed in house. I use their software which is what makes me one of their customers. Any time I have a question, they're always available to patiently explain or solve any difficulties I have.
This firm is so good I don't hesitate to recommend them to anyone because they always make me look good.
*It would be arrogant were I to elevate myself to their level by describing myself as their competitor. Rather, we are colleagues.
