Very Outdated
|
We were first time homeschooling parents and we needed some direction and support. This program just wasn't for us. After 2 weeks of using this program we sent everything back and switched to a different curriculum These are the areas we had concerns with: THE PRICE: We paid $1200 for the year and we figured there isn't a price tag you can put on your child's education, so we willingly paid. We figured we would get what we paid for well we were wrong!!! BOOKS -The books we received were from the 80's and 90's (a little outdated??) When I called to see if there was an answer key for the Math, I was told that I could PURCHASE a teachers edition and that would have the answer key in it, otherwise I would have to make my own answer key. The website was not very user friendly and it would have been nice to have links to assist in supplemental information. SCHEDULE- They do send a schedule of what needs to be completed but thats it!!! Your on your own for everything else. Since there are so many online curriculum's that are extremely helpful and interactive and not to mention up to date, it would be in their best interest to either lower their price or do a complete overhaul of their website and update, update, update. In this day and age they seem to be really behind the times. April Granzow

Two weeks was an insufficient time period for the evaluation of the Pearblossom program and curriculum. If the parent/student would have pursued the Pearblossom program, they would have realized that if the student needed help or educational assistance (tutoring) on any math problem or procedure, all they had to do was call our help hot line. Pearblossom has done an extensive quantitative and qualitative evaluation of each text book that is used. We found that students performed poorly with the newest text books as these often tested on material not contained in the given chapters and in many cases were not as rigorous and detailed in teaching the concepts as the older books. Abundant links to supplemental information are contained in YouTube videos that can be found simply by keying in the title of the math chapter. The website allows the parent or student to have access to all subjects, all grades, progress reports, summary of status of completion, and many other details at the click of a button. Problems that are missed on a test can be retaken one more time (so long as the question is not true/false) so that the student can learn the material and earn a higher score. This particular student would have completed the combination 7/8th grade in 9 months and then would have continued on to 9th grade--graduating a year early. The student would have continued with Pearblossom Academy for High School which is accredited by Middle States Association (MSA--CESS) which is recognized by the United States Department of Education. Pearblossom has set the standards for distance education with online educational programs dating back to 1980. We have received hundreds of unsolicited testimonials from parents and students who have enjoyed various aspects of our program, but realize it is not possible to please everyone. We do respond to constructive criticism and thank April G. for her assessment.
